Day 10, Playing Games

Day 10, Playing Games.   I’ve somehow returned to “Trivial Pursuits” times and those friends I played with back then.  Doug has great all-night small parties like tonight’s in his small one bedroom bungalow 1/2 a block from the beach.  We can just fit in the living room, each at our side of the board, four of us is just right.  Ash trays back then, small coffee tables, just big enough for a few drinks.  Everyone reads their card quietly because it’s finally pretty quiet outside in the alley and there’s lots of apartments and bungalows practically on top of each other in the alley.  People are sleeping by 4:00 a.m.  I’m getting kind of bored with the cards I read.  Here’s another, music, oh boo.  those guys, what a bunch of old nurses, they along with the Grateful Dead, robbed me of the teen years I thought I’d spend in tight skirts and beehives like my older cousins did in Philadelphia, ok here goes:  “Who’s the fourth member of Crosby, Stills, (yawn), Nash and Young?”  Gee Sharlene at least looks puzzled, I figured that would be an easy one for these folks, my California friends . . . . .She started laughing as I heard what I’d said.  “Young”.  Woops, even I’m too used to hearing the four names together that I know goes with that tweetie sound, but don’t know any of those songs names or who sings which ones, all pretty softly similar.  “Young”, ok, he’s not really part of the thing, good for him I guess.

NaBloPoMo Day Six, Change Me How?

Day Six, let’s see if I get this to the blog or where it should be.  Seems like I’m doing a comment but I’ll try it.  What I would like to change about me is my unwillingness to “start”.   I can day dream endlessly, watch movies and TV Politics, especially MSNBC, endlessly.  I think about shopping, making some improvements on my cars that only require buying something little and putting it in or on, cleaning and improving my home, writing, reading and more.  Eventually I fall asleep and start again the next day, thinking that is.  It’s gotten to the point where I can actually do only what I really need to be able to think and watch which is shop for food and wash clothes and me and walk my dog and cook and eat.  For most of my life procrastination and laziness kept me from doing as much as I might have, made me scramble and do what had to be done finally at the last minute, but ultimately isn’t regrettable as I chose to act or not act that way and continued for 50 or so years.  I’m concerned though about what has also kept me still for the years I’ve been away from work which might be fear of failure or new certainty that any start will not produce perfect results.  Failure or perfection with nothing in between might be an excuse of allowed myself to use to justify daydreaming.  I would like to jump into some plans or tasks or searches without even envisioning a result or end, just jump around, pop in and out, drive away to the easy route for nothing other than a look, just start.  I know it feels good sometimes, is a mess other times, isn’t going to cost or harm me much as I’m not stupid, am a glass ass and don’t gamble life choices seriously, just play slot machines a little.  Maybe my condo complex will notify me there’s going to be a termite project for a few days that puts me out on the street . . . . . It wouldn’t hurt.  I hope I get a move on though before something like an earthquake or other disaster forces me into motion.  I’m going to try to prepare for that took, fill some water bottles and make a little care package for Solo and me, just in case.  I think I have some bottles and whatever it is one should put into the package, I think

Thirty days of something, anything will be good for me.  For almost three years I’ve been home from work.  First five months I was on admin leave after employer finally harassed and bullied me and drove me off the job.  I’d been given a fifteen day suspension on the 31st of January out of the clear blue sky.  It was like being a victim in a drive by shooting.  Sure, they’d been attacking me for two years pretty regularly, in a contrived and perverted way, making accusations that had nothing to do with actual work or anything other than their “work”, a campaign to agitate and create drama eventually to be able to document “progressive discipline” sufficient to suspend and terminate me.  But it would eventually fade for a while.  I worked and, like it or not, they needed somebody to work, somebody who’d been there long enough to know the work.  So much…

Still the 2nd

</NaBloPoMo November 2013>In 11 minutes it will be the 3rd of November.  I would have missed writing the next day after committing only yesterday to write every day of November at “Noma. . . . ” something like that.  Well there’s plenty more I didn’t do today.  It was a day of just remembering.  While walking Solo I passed the unit with the surfboard like decoration over a window with Pittsburgh Steelers carved into it.  To be from Pennsylvania.  It made me smile to remember what that was.  Of course I knew what it was to be from Philadelphia, not Pittsburgh but I remember elementary school, when I learned Pennsylvania was one of the three mid-atlantic states as New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania were called.  Those three had as much population as the rest of the country, at least back then in 1961 or ’62.  So it was pretty ordinary back to be from Pennsylvania I thought back then.  I remembered thinking that.  When we came back in from the walk I was in my bathroom and I remembered other houses, visiting both Grandma’s houses on weekends, staying over at Grandma Minnie’s house one night.  Cindy and I slept in Grandma’s and Grandpa’s bedroom.  It was bright in there even though it was nighttime.  I liked that.  I knew the light was sometimes from cars going by and other light was just from other homes so close.  It felt so safe, no monsters or ghosts.  I liked the closeness of the city that was so different from the seperatness of the suburbs where I lived, where it was dark at night with the light off.

All right, I’ll write.

So much staff was new always; few stayed and even if they did, they were not yet able to really do it.  The hearing process at Social Security involves a variety of programs that do take about ten years to learn, as they told us at orientation.  So, sometimes they let me work for a few months at a time without involving me in wasteful drama they so enjoyed.  Well, the Social Security hearing office I worked for from ’97 to ’11 just flopped, no matter how many workers they could bring on, even with two temporary supervisors finally to assist the three there and their hearing office director, a miserable bitter pill for whom berating employees, denying benefits, belittling them and even the judges was a “perk”.  While she was in the position since 2003 and worked for SSA since ’79 (all of her working life), and while the chief judge was that for at least 25 years, they just couldn’t get the hang of it.  We managed to come in at #155 to #162 of only 165 hearing offices nationwide.  This director was furious with me and anybody who was totally absorbed by the work itself, not interested in the social aspect of the office or her especially.  Oh well, so anyway, I worked, liked my work, was really liked for that by the judges, and I fought off the malignant director until it was no longer possible.  Finally after about 5 months admin leave, with many EEO cases filed and responses to proposed suspension and proposed removal written and served, I retired.  I was 56, a federal worker with about 15 years service, eligible for an early retirement with some pension and lifelong health insurance, etc. and I took it.  Then it turned out I was disabled per SSA and here I am.  It’s ok.  It’s also time to start living my retired, disabled, pretty free life, what the hell.  Home is almost paid for, weather’s fine, cases are almost finished.  Boy, I am pretty loose though, toooooo laaaaaaid back!  30 days of something, anything, we’ll see.   I’ll write for 30 days “nablopmo”, thanks.

Baboons take turns yelling at IRS from Treasury Chief at House Financial Services Committee. There is so much more to discuss than “When did you know”?

This was just plain weird!  GOP, Tea Party simply asking Jack Lew the same thing over and over and over!  When did you know.  He’s trying to tell House Financial Services Committee about the processes, the investigation and actions taken like getting a new Commissioner, etc.  and he’s talking to . . . Rep. Sean Duffy.  Duffy is yelling at him and saying “when did you learn”, “when did you learn”?  “Answer my question!”  This has been going on for over an hour!   He appeared on Wednesday before this committee.  The republican/teabag attack is the most lowbrow, offensive, embarrassing thing I’ve ever seen.  These guys don’t want to know anything about the IRS; they are not going to learn anything about the 501 C  (how an organization becomes exempt); they are not going to learn anything about anything.  WOW!!!!
I know these guys are desperate to get a scandal but this is really so dumb.  I hope foreigners aren’t watching.  UNBELIEVABLE!!!   The guy has been answering questions and giving intelligent answers that one wants to hear from this very qualified, very impressive individual who has been in such important top positions, is a wizard and is our new Treasury Chief!  Well he’s answering smart questions that are coming from adult, interested, serious representatives–every other question that is–Democrats and he are discussing Dodd Frank, small banks and an issue about them, banking and IRS reforms being made . . . . . The republicans and teabags are just ranting and shouting “answer yes or no”; no questions . . . . . he gave the timeline an hour ago and again and again!  These guys are simply engaging in their usual Verbal Masturbation!  I wish Lew would just start laughing at this baloney.   What the foo faa fah?    These guys shouldn’t keep pressing this issue.  They are really bringing attention to their real problem, what they are really crying about: they simply won’t allow the most wealthy, greedy, least productive and least caring 1% to have to pay taxes: god forbid.  Hell, they are the very ones who don’t pay, won’t pay, hide their money in other countries!  Good grief, if they were to try to read the vague rules now existing for these Citizens United , 501 C organizations that have flooded the IRS since the stupid law came that lets them be tax exempt with little to no public service benefit (just political teabag and other party operations, liberal too I’m sure), naw they won’t, can’t, just want to be flame throwing and stopping IRS too, stopping any progress, any governing any anything.   But really, a new blowhard I now have seen is this Sean Duffy dunderhead!  You should have heard Steve Peace crying . . . . . I hope IRS just writes the most clear 1-2-3 instructions to handle this morass of 501C filing so they can deny tax exemption to as many of the phony and suspicious groups as they can!  I hope they also start checking on and denying church tax exemption when their is politics going on at place of worship.  They have been really permissive and screw it:  It’s time to collect taxes and these traitors will really have something to cry about!

Public unions–Wisconsin–SSA too big to bust

AFGE as the union that exists for support staff at SSA is probably the next public union that deserves a look to determine viability.   My experience with AFGE as a dues paying member at SSA who is making it clear union contracts are ignored makes it appear the union is just a front for employee rights.   I will share the details once this gets past my own screen.  It seems to be a well kept secret by SSA and by AFGE.

SSA is too big to bust–union can’t and oversight isn’t done

Two EEO cases are pending at court and an MSPB case that was bounced there after EEOC and will go back to EEOC likely are absolutely devastating to  try to pursue alone as I do despite AFGE dues paying membership while all the discrimination and retaliation ocurred.  What happened to me at Social Security’s Office of Disability, Adjudication and Review (“ODAR”) San Diego should never happen to a union member anywhere who does or doesn’t pay.  I will never understand or be able to reconcile the local preident-representative’s neglect that was so bad I have to think he served nobody’s purposes finally but  management’s.  Somehow they knew when to assault me with a “demand for  investigation next day with-or-without a rep”.  It occurred usually within a couple days of filing an EEO or other complaint, sometimes the very next day  and it always seemed to be when this rep was out of the office.  He  never checked e-mail or left any backup person and insisted he be notified to represent or to assign another member to represent: an impossible situation as he couldn’t be reached or chose not to be.  I was bullied and abused by the most sadistic management ever I am  certain.  After working for four other federal workplaces I am convinced  ODAR San Diego was not bound by any AFGE contract or other guide and they made  it known that no such contract would or could restrain them.
I am a progressive Democrat who recently supported a candidate locally at the phone bank and going door to door and will do so again and have done so for the president.  It is VERY hard to be a progressive Democrat, support all that it means and know how harmful union membership can  be.
You cannot imagine how hard I had to fight ALONE filing FLRA complaints, two of which had merit, EEO complaints that will probably torture me until it they destroy me and this MSPB finally for constructive discharge after a proposal to  remove written five months after minor or no incidents “overheard talking in an  unpleasant tone of voice” and some very desperate phone calls from home when I  had to take annual leave to avoid a “next-day investigation, with-or-without a  rep . . . . no you can’t record it”.  Then I was accused of making a threat  (to myself with nobody around but the chief judge who was the subject of  a unanimous petition to remove that was written about in the S.D. Union  Tribune by Greg Moran on 7/20/09..  I was working unprotected among a pack of wolves, bitter and  defensive about any kind of oversight.  So much abuse was permitted by the AFGE rep who simply was afraid or unwilling or unable to stand up to that  management.   Or a reason that is worse existed.  I will never,  ever be able to accept what was done to me and the position I am in now, trying  to fight on my own against an agency that has endless resources at their  fingertips to defend all wrongdoing forever.  Social Security Administration is probably the largest federal agency outside of defense and I can assure you, from what I saw at one of their hearing offices between 1997 and 2011 serious oversight (or any oversight please) must be applied to protect claimants who are disabled and/or elderly and have little voices easily ignored.  I was prevented from working by management allowed to spend unlimited time discussing tone of voice and the manner in which they wished to be treated.  None of this involved the public with whom they were unconcerned!
If union is needed or of any use it is in such a place!  This rep had an assistant send me an e-mail that said “we’ll file on behave(sic) for  you”.  Then weeks late he himself wrote “I’m not filing anything on  behave(sic) of you”.  I assume he is no longer president and don’t  understand how he ever was.  I also don’t understand why the district leader for that local would not allow me to bring my response I was trying to make to an adverse action to his office for  review.  It is and was cruel and horrible.  It was bad enough to have  a rep in another state, never available.  But the district leader wouldn’t even accommodate  me in any way and was only 40 miles away; his office being in my county, my state!.
I was harmed perhaps more by AFGE because perhaps if I’d ever believed  there was actually a contract that was upheld by union individuals to protect  me.  If I new I was on my own, I’d have never objected to anything.  As it was, all I got was a lie  and a chance to pay dues and, perhaps, I was part of a package deal that was  made with ODAR management or Region 9 SSA for the benefit of other members or a  member or perhaps SSA’s efforts to keep the San Diego chief judge in place despite the unanimous petition of all 8 judges he supervised who wanted to remove him.  I can only look at the reasons as something like that, equally as  corrupt and cruel as management.
It is of course not of any interest to AFGE now that I don’t pay dues; it  was not concern to AFGE when I did pay dues.  All I can do is fight  on my own and share this knowledge of how ineffective a union is in government  workplaces that don’t respect unions.  I can see what is happening in Wisconsin if AFGE  is typical in the way it dumps its members.  I await discussions to share this.  It makes me sad as a  Democrat to view unions as carpetbaggers.
